The Lebanese military forces systematically arrested children (under the age of 18 as defined by the Convention on the Rights of the Child).

14 children were arrested between the 22nd of August and the 1st of September (as confirmed by the Minister of Interior Nohad al-Machnouk and the member of the parliamentarian Committee on Human Rights during the press conference held on the 2nd of September).

Badael Alternatives considers arresting children as a major violation of children’s rights to safety, protection, participation and freedom of expression. Even in case of conflict with the law, children’s rights to protection and privacy should be ensured during arrests and investigations.

Badael Alternatives would like to call upon all entities to handle this matter with responsibility and in adherence to conventions ratified by the country.

Targeting children and youth under 18 is a major violation of Human/Children’s Rights and Badael Alternatives call upon all Human Rights Observatories and Children’s Rights entities to assume their responsibilities in protecting the rights of children in time of conflicts.

It is also a call to the movement to protect participating children.
